15 best goalkeeper kits of 2023/24
It’s a travesty when goalkeeper kits don’t get the attention they deserve.
Lost amongst an endless stream of new home, away and third strips, those crazy folk between the sticks often miss out on the limelight during the kit promos.
This is, of course, a crying shame. We only need to mention Jorge Campos and Peter Schmeichel to remind you how iconic these shirts can become.
The goalkeepers’ union should be up in arms about this shocking lack of coverage. Especially when there are so many wonderful designs out there.
Although most clubs are handed generic brand templates, sometimes the 'keeper can become the best dressed on the pitch with a lively bespoke creation.
So, this is an ode to the forgotten goalkeeper kits of 2023/24. We’re here to run you through some of the best goalie shirt designs you’ll see this season.
Ranked: the best goalkeeper shirts of 2023/24
15. Liverpool (GK Home)

We’re starting off with an example of one of the many templates from this season. But, this Nike Liverpool jersey has a twist which makes it more interesting.
The lime green logos and badgework make the simple design pop, glowing brightly on swirling black waves. A beacon of saviour, a lot like Alisson between the sticks.
14. Fiorentina (GK Away)

Now, a jaunt over to Florence and our favourite Kappa-donning Serie A side, Fiorentina. They complete their incredible 2023/24 shirt set with this icy GK jersey.
Purple details stand out, as they do on any I Viola strip. The patterned turquoise base is super eye-catching. Pietro Terracciano will be glad he caught this one.
13. Manchester City (GK Home)

We hear the groans. Not another template? Well, this Puma one has been used the world over, but we thought it was only fair to celebrate how Manchester City have used it.
Lively yellow detailing on a mixed green base doesn’t sound like it should work, yet it does. The swirly vent pattern is sublime. No doubt, those Ederson neck tattoos will be lit up by this.
12. Clermont Foot (GK Home)

From Manchester to central France. Ligue 1’s Clermont Foot and the Uhlsport brand are two things we don’t often hear too much of. This shirt made us look their way.
It’s an excellent use of different shades of purple, on broken shards all mingled together. It has a calming effect, which is exactly what you want when you look back at your own #1.
11. Levante (GK Special)

Design-wise, it’s not amazing. This shirt is here on merit, but more because of what it stands for: raising awareness around breast cancer.
Levante’s red Macron GK top is marked with one white ‘stitched’ line and another breast-shaped line. Top class stuff from the La Liga side.
10. Nantes (GK Home)

Let’s head up north into France again, this time for another Macron outfit. Wash away those rainy days with Nantes’ bright and breezy home ‘keeper top.
The subtle cloud-like pattern that runs through the base is the, pardon our French, pièce de résistance. White logos finish the clean look.
9. Rayo Vallecano (GK Home)

As always, La Liga’s Rayo Vallecano cling onto using lightning bolts more than a #1 hugging a ball in the dying seconds with a 1-0 lead. But, we’re here for it.
Umbro have created something truly unique for the Madrid-based club. It uses beige bolts, cuffs and collar on a black base, without being tacky or overwhelming. It’s great.
8. Millwall (GK Home)

South east London, The Den of Millwall. A place where a shirt like this would stand out like a sore thumb, amongst the sea of Stone Island jackets.
Goalkeeper kits and third kits should be wild, that’s an unwritten rule. Errea understood the remit, and they’ve dropped a madly-brilliant zig-zag effort for us to enjoy.
7. Athletic Club (GK Away)

To the warmth of Bilbao for another step into the purple haze. This Castore effort for the Athletic Club away GK jersey has a lovely vibe to it.
Thick stripes are hosted on the violet base, with a diagonal bunting-style pattern breaking it all up. We heard that (Unai) Simón says he likes this one very much.
6. Wycombe Wanderers (GK Home)

Well, what do we have here? Some unadulterated goalkeeper kit madness courtesy of Wycombe Wanderers of League One. And it just had to be made by Danish legends, hummel.
With all the nostalgia of your favourite Indian eatery, this purple and yellow jersey is actually said to be inspired by Mardi Gras. Either way, it’s barmy and it’s right up our street.
5. Fortaleza (GK Fourth)

Four goalie shirts?! Four, Fortaleza?! That’s insane. We’re not sure how many kit clashes they’re expecting during Brazilian Serie A’s 2023/24 season, but they’re prepped anyway.
Their historical link to France is clear, as seen here on the shoulder trims which are ‘magnifique’. This Volt jersey is super classy, just like Paris itself.
4. Bristol City (GK Home)

They may have switched from hummel to O’Neills, but Bristol City aren’t giving up that easily on their dream to create the craziest goalkeeper kit of the season.
Multi-coloured feathers are about as abstract as it gets. Throw in a brushstroke style and you’ve descended into a world of insanity. But hey, that’s where the best ‘keepers live!
3. Palmeiras (GK Special)

Brazilian side Palmeiras and nice kits, there are two things which go hand-in-hand. As with all Serie A sides every season, they've launched a cancer awareness special shirt.
This year’s Puma creation uses brushstrokes in a subtle half-and-half design of baby pink and sky blue. The navy details and round collar complete an excellent shirt.
2. Venezia (GK Away)

Some might say the most beautiful things in Venice are the canals. We disagree, it’s most definitely the football shirts of Venezia FC.
Yet another corker from the cult club which uses their iconic colour palette of green and orange in thin pinstripe form, lashed across golden plains. Very elegant, very Venezia.
1. Coventry City (GK Away)

Well, here we have #1 for our #1s of 2023/24. It’s hummel’s incredible away effort for Championship club Coventry City.
Take the ‘h’ out of the sponsor name and we’d have given this 11 out of 10. The pattern is like nothing we’ve seen before, a ‘striped ribbon’ in multiple colours.
Anything but a plain base would’ve meant this shirt was trying too hard, so it’s bonus points for letting the design breathe. By the way, the black reverse home GK shirt is also very good.
